Why I made these books
When I was growing up, my dad told me “Scoty the Swordsman” stories. It was one of the ways he connected with me as a child. Those stories became part of our relationship, and they stayed with me.
Years later, as a dad myself, I wanted to give those stories a lasting home. I wanted to preserve what my father had shared with me and pass it on to my own son, creating that same connection through stories we could enjoy together. Tales of Mosshelm grew out of that wish.
These books are a way of carrying something from my childhood into his: the adventures, the imagination, and the time spent sharing a story. My hope is that other families can find that connection in Mosshelm, too.
I wanted to create stories that children could laugh at, return to, and find a little of themselves in. A world where courage and kindness matter, asking for help is part of the adventure, and being good at one thing does not mean you have to be good at everything.
That is the idea behind Mosshelm. Each character brings a different strength to the village. Jenny has her lance. Sam has his shield. Betty has her tools. But the best part of an adventure is seeing what happens when those strengths come together.
My hope is that these books give families something to enjoy together: a funny moment, a detail spotted on a second reading, and a reason to turn the page for another adventure.
